THE CHINESE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG, SHENZHEN
Implementation of New Grade Designations on the Official Transcript
To faithfully record the learning activities of students, the University has decided that, starting from the first day of Term 2 of Academic Year 2017-18, two new grades, W and I, will be introduced on the official transcript.
1. “W” (Withdrawn) for Approved Late Course Drop
Students may apply to drop a course after the last day of add/drop period, but before a final grade is earned within a term. If a Student’s application for late course drop is successful, a “W” (Withdrawn) grade will be given to the course on the student’s transcript. A course with a “W” grade will not earn any credit and will have no effect on the calculation of GPAs, whether it is for the term, cumulative, or major. Students may retake a course with a “W” grade when it is offered again in another term.
2. “I” (Incomplete) for Approved Incomplete Coursework at the End of Term
If the completion of a student’s coursework is necessarily delayed due to an unexpected situation, the student may apply in writing to seek permission, from the Dean of the course offering School, to submit such coursework after the end of term, but before a stipulated deadline. If the student’s application is successful, an “I” (Incomplete) will be displayed temporarily for the course on the student’s transcript. The “I” grade will be converted to a regular grade, if the coursework is completed before the deadline; otherwise, the course instructor will submit a grade for the student that takes into account the absence of the coursework, or the “I” grade will be converted to an “F” or a “U” (Failure) depending on the grading basis of that course. A course with an “I” grade will not earn any credit and will have no effect on the calculation of GPAs during the temporary display period.
