The School may pre-assign some courses that the students are required to take in a specific term before Formal Course Registration. The students may face the following risks if they drop the pre-assign course(s):
1. The course may not be offered in every term;
2. The pre-assigned course(s) may be the pre-requisite for other courses. It may have impact on course registration of other related course(s).
3. The students might not be the target students of the course when it offers.
The students can make their own study plan. However, the students should notice the risk of not following the recommended course pattern of the study scheme, such as resulting in extension of graduation.
It is strongly suggested that the students consult with their Schools or Academic Advisors before making the decision.
The course offering information for Formal Course Registration will be released via email by Registry Office one week or two weeks ahead of the Formal Course Registration period.
The course offering information for Formal Course Registration usually includes the course list, course titles, number of classes, instructors, instruction languages, quota released (including reserved quota), enrollment requirement (target students, pre-requisite, co-requisite and exclusion), etc.
The students can login to SIS and view the course outline, course quota, classroom, timetable, enrollment requirement, language of instruction and teaching mode, etc.
In Term 1 of Year 1, except for some courses that will be selected by the students, the other courses will be assigned to the students by Registry Office. Registry Office will schedule the timetable for the students based on their course selection result.
Starting from Term 2 of Year 1, the students need to arrange their own study plan according to the study scheme and register the courses on their own.
The course offering information for Pre-registration will be released one week or two weeks ahead of the Pre-registration period.
The course offering information for Pre-registration includes the course list, course titles, number of classes, instructors, languages of instruction, quota released, enrollment requirements (pre-requisite, co-requisite and exclusion), etc.
Pre-registration for Fall term: Late July;
Pre-registration for Spring term: Middle or Late November;
Pre-registration for Summer Session: Late March
The exact date for Pre-registration is subject to the notice sent by Registry Office.
In order to identify students’ needs, PRE-REGISTRATION will be implemented. The course offering unit(s) will adjust the course offering plan based on the result of Pre-registration if necessary. All undergraduate students MUST participate in Pre-registration from the Second Term of Year One. In Term 1 and Term 2, students who have not taken part in Pre-registration will only be allowed to register for the courses 10 minutes after the course registration process has started. As some students are in suspension and cannot select courses during Pre-registration, this implementation is optional to them.
The result of Pre-registration is for reference only and does not imply the final result of Formal Registration.
