Application for Shortening of the Period of Study
- According to Regulation 3.2 of the General Regulations Governing Undergraduate Studies, shortening of the normative study period should be made 6 months before the last day of the expected graduation term. No such application shall normally be accepted after the commencement of a student’s expected graduation term.
- The minimum cumulative GPA for early graduation is 3.2 as set by the University.
- the calculation of cumulative GPA includes the final grades of the semester when application is made;
- if there are unreleased or pending grades, a provisional approval may be given, subject to student’s fulfillment of minimum cumulative GPA.
- Schools will approve the student’s study plan, before such application is submitted to the Director of Registry Services for final approval.
- A student admitted to CUHK(SZ) will also be registered as a student of CUHK, therefore, applicants who wish to apply for early graduation, should also be aware of and be subject to regulations on Degree and Other Awards stipulated in the Statutes of The Chinese University of Hong Kong:
The Senate may accept as part of the attendance of a student qualifying him for the conferment of the degree of Bachelor periods of attendance as a registered student at another university or institution of higher learning recognized by the Senate for this purpose:
Provided that the degree of Bachelor shall not be conferred upon such student unless—
(a)he shall have attended an approved course of study as a matriculated student of the University for at least 2 academic years; and
(b)his total period of attendance as a matriculated student of the University and as a registered student of another university or institution of higher learning shall not be less than 3 academic years.
- For cases shortened more than one semester, approval is needed from the Guangdong Education Department.
- A student, who is approved to shorten his/her study period and can successfully graduate by the end of the expected graduation term, shall pay the tuition fees on a pro-rata basis according to his/her actual study period.
If s/he fails to graduate by the end of expected graduation term, s/he should pay the original tuition fees for the normative study period.
